It would also have been time consuming and costly which is as to why its production was short. Its design is unquestionably fabulous but its accomplishment difficult and problematic to achieve.

Had the leg-supports been solid (rather than fret worked and open) the form of this piece would have been easier to produce easier to remove from its mould and easier to anneal job-to-finish.

It was produced by Sowerby, England. However it appears in none of their catalogues. A reason perhaps, made by Sowerby themselves not to include such a problematic pattern to mass produce?

The tripod legs of moulded glass such as this would to this day require much working time to make them stable & uniform.

Time & work, equals COST and so such items are seldom produced by any factory using moulded glass... Less it becomes an expense to the piece and too its customer.

Grinding & polishing to each leg of this piece was costly and time consuming and more so than producing the moulded glass itself no small wonder then that a glassworks quickly dismissed this pattern from their repertoire, collection or range.

Even without the fabulous "legs" of this Art Deco piece it would still remain a beauty and with its separate component piece of the large-domed flower-posy frog it is a super fine quality Art Deco period item of superb moulded glass design.

Sowerby, obviously knew this and so quickly replaced the fret worked legs of this same pattern bowl with small, squat feet and with less holes to its center piece flower frog.

This item is a complete splendour of original Art Deco press moulded amber glass for your collection and is an early limited edition piece produced by one the most successful and prolific of press moulded glass factory's in history. Sowerby, England.
