This delightful example of Mother of Pearl, opal iridescent Art Nouveau glass was produced by Kralik, in Austria circa 1900 –1910.
I am offering several different examples of these wonderful vases here at my shop all of which were produced by one of the leading exponents of this glass type during the Art Nouveau period.
These vase types are crystal cased over white and all have been mouth blown into appealing bulbous shaped moulds in a variety of sizes and styles, as can be seen by group photographs.
They are exceptionally tactile and eye-catching vases and their diamond-point surfaces are intaglio moulded and can be described as having the feel of orange peel.
The governing factor to all of these vase shapes is their beautiful lustre of pearly-white iridescence which is achieved by casing the white blown vase with clear glass before then spraying the finished piece with metallic salts.
The application of these salts is critically timed and only the glass worker can know at what crucial temperature stage that this is and before the glass has cooled.
The resulting effects are quite stunning as I am sure you will agree.
It has additional styling to its form with four stylized teardrops and swags protruding from the body of the vase.
It is real beauty of its pattern type by Kralik.
The tops of these vase styles remain unpolished, which is a common characteristic that extends to most of these vase patterns.
Metal mounts were often applied out of house by the various importers and retailers of the time.
More often than not, these mounts have perished over time or have been lost, however it cannot be said that all of these vases were sold with metal mounts during the early 1900s.
This fine example vase, however is mounted with a removable brass fretwork and top design so as to make easy work of a floral display.
The glass is totally free of any damage and so it is a worthy example of its type. The brass metal mount is also in excellent condition for its age with no pitting or corrosion.
You are being offered here an opportunity for wise investment.
These Mother of Pearl vases by Kralik, continue to rise in both terms of investment & desirability and you will not be disappointed with this fine, wonderful example, produced by one of the most historically important factories of the Art Nouveau period.
