This fabulous signed plate is by Rene Lalique and is an early dated design by The Master.
It was produced exclusively circa 1921. All examples are satin frosted to their underside and were also produced with coloured patina and in two sizes.
At first glances when and viewed from the top, these plates deceive the eye with their decorative elements. They appear to have a Moroccan influence with stylized fretwork and then one is reminded of large leaves of foliage interspersed with floral elements however the name of these pates is the giveaway: Vases
Seven crystal clear vase shapes encircle around the plate as like windows whilst the remaining decorative features of floral displays, billow out from each vase in a fantastic network of interweave around the circumference. The bulbous shaped vases with thin narrow necks, heralds the vase shape Acacia by R Lalique of the same date.
It is one of the most fabulous of plate designs that Lalique produced circa 1921 and the example here is free of damage. It rings like a bell when tapped with a fingernail and is signed to its inside centre in moulded relief:
The plate is also etched in script to its base:
The last photograph is for display purposes and to provide size & scale and it is pictured together with the R lalique ashtray Irene, circa 1929.
