Edinburgh Crystal, Scotland. U.K. were one of the most famous cut crystal glass manufactures of all time. Established c1867, producing decanters, bowls, baskets and scent bottles, in several ranges and were commissioned to produce the glass panels for the lamps on the British Royal carriages.
So important was this company, that it was purchased circa 1921 by Thomas Webb & Sons Ltd, Stourbridge, England (recognised worldwide as a major factory of historical importance) who continued to trade under Edinburgh Crystal by name.
These pair of scent bottles are for the true connoisseur and are items of exceptional quality and entirely unique. Their pattern is documented "Star of Edinburgh" and they are incredible survivors of their type.
The quality of lead crystal is perhaps second to none. Each stopper alone weighs 200gms and has a wall thickness of 5mm. The optical effects of this fabulous duo, is almost impossible to describe with appropriate justice or for me to capture by photography. They sparkle like diamonds and just to cherish ONE is most surely a must have.
Having been entirely wheel-cut by hand, each bottle is unique, but were produced as a pair and a wedding gift for my late parents circa 1945.
Their stoppers are not interchangeable, each being cut specifically to fit its own bottle, which bear corresponding numbers etched to the bases of each bottle and their stoppers.
The reverse sides to each stopper, is uncut and highly polished, as too are the bases of each bottle. The bottles can contain 100ml and are a fabulous size.
*Please kindly accept and understand that I am unable to split this pair into two separate lots*
