This incredible bronze Ganesha, Hindu temple god, is very old.
It is also a fine large example at 6 inches high.
It would have been purchased by my late Father and most probably from Varanasi, India during his visit there in the mid 1900's however this statue was produced in the first quarter if the 20th century. I later followed in my father's footsteps and many vintage treasures from my times spent in Northern Asia are available here from my shop.
Ganesha, is a zoomorphic elephant-headed god, most often depicted as he is here, pot-bellied. He is the son of Siva & Parvati and is the temple god of knowledge, wisdom, literature and fire. He is the lord and the destroyer of all obstacles.
Ganesha as represented here using bronze, has been exceptionally well defined. His sixteen hands, each hold symbolic Hindu religious emblems. The back of the bronze is also very finely detailed as can be seen by my photographs.
Ganesha is always portrayed with one tusk. This has quite often been mistaken as being damage to such items, which is not the case. The missing right tusk is intentional.
This incredible example should not be confused with or compared to any modern-day reproductions. Here for your collection is a very old bronze example of Ganesha, with fine aged patina, completely free of any damage and it is entirely unique.
