This is a stunning example of Victorian Uranium Cased Opal Glass by Thomas Webb Stourbridge, England. Circa 1880-1910
It should be in a museum. But is offered to you here!
The Jack-in-the-pulpit form of this vase is exceptional.
Perfect symmetry throughout and with additional features being its wrythen patterned body and of course the perfection of glass control to form its wonderful top...
...Take a while to study the thinly controlled rim of the top. Perfect heat control in order not to allow the white opal to the edge. It is a phenomenal achievement of glass blowing skill
The addition of its wrythen body affords a wonderful radiating pattern to the flared top. Look at it GLOW when lit by UV black light. It's a real Show-Stopper!
Sadly, two pieces of the appliqué frill are missing, however this does not detract, but has been reflected in the offer price. There is no chipping or cracking to any other area and the vase is as stable as the day it was made. This piece is still without question an important vase by an important maker: Thomas Webb
