A Tantra Yoni & Lingam Stone. Bhaktapur, Nepal. c1988

A Tantra Yoni and Lingam Stone of Nepalese Black Terracotta.Circa 1988.

According to Hindu religion the yoni is the creative power of nature and represents the goddess Shakti. The lingam stone represents Shiva, and is usually placed into the yoni. The lingam is the transcendental source of all that exists and when united with the yoni, represents the non- duality of immanent reality and transcendental potentiality.

It is also the divine passage, womb or sacred temple.

The example offered here from my family's collection of vintage collectables, was purchased by myself at Bhaktapur, Nepal during my stay (on and off) for six years. My final year being 1991.

It has been beautifully crafted with a series of four, heads & chests of goddess Shakti. The individual skills of Nepalese potters, metal workers and wood carvers are highly regarded and to be fortunate enough to have watched these people creating some of these remarkable objects, was quite something. They make it seem simplicity and the speed in which they can create a piece is astounding.

It would take me a lifetime to explain about ALL Hindu & Buddhist works of art etc. and their particular meanings within each religious faith. To most Western people these items are purely decorative to us, and so they are too. Decorative however, but with meaning.

Collectors of such items will adore this piece, whilst also taking comfort from knowing that this is a genuine lingam stone from Bhaktapur, in the sacred valley of Kathmandu, Nepal. They bring luck to both sexes and are an essential addition to a Temple, of Tantric devotee's.
