The hollow horseshoe-shaped element to this piece is extraordinary. It could well indicate to it being a trial item however without any identical vase comparison it is difficult to say.
The branch of the vase has been decoratively embellished to form stylized wood-bark. The glass has also been opal lustred to give wonderful opal hues with transparency.
A subtle spectrum of colours, shimmer across the surface of the vase. The resulting piece is unique and adds much grace to a glass collection.
I can date the vase to be being pre 1920 with some authority. It is certainly not a modern day item and is yet another glass vase from my collection which is without any known parallel.
Have YOU seen one before?
I would very much welcome positive identification!
The crystal qualities of the vase and its formation suggest it is Bohemian of origin circa 1910-1920, and though I cannot attribute this vase to the work of Loetz, it is more than just a likely contender.
The foot of the vase has also been opal-lustred as too is the frill which joins the foot to the "U" shaped vase, a further characteristic used by Loetz. The foot is large, thick and very supportive with a good wall thickness of 0.25 inches, and its concave shape gives added appeal & style. It has been wheel cut and highly polished, which is a further sign of good quality.
This is a good piece for your collection & totally unique.
It is also without damage and in pristine condition.
