Original 1930s English Art Deco Amber Depression Glass Vanity Trinket Set by Bagley
I am offering here one of Bagleys most wonderful of all Art Deco vanity trinket sets.
The styling of this set is super-fantastic and was launched by the company in 1938 under the pattern name BEDFORD No. 3057 It was produced in various colour ranges in both clear & satin frosted glass. Marketed at the time as: 'CRYSTALTYNT WARE'
Few of this pattern were signed or Rd numbered. Rarely, if ever, a paper label would be added to their tray, but in 45 years I am as yet to have seen such an example, the paper labels of most having long disappeared by cleaning and washing.
The set offered here, has the moulded mark: MADE IN ENGLAND. This mark is only evident upon the base of one candlestick and the inside of the powder box. A seldom found mark upon such sets of this ORIGINAL type... HOWEVER, it should be noted, that smaller pots of this pattern, WERE produced by Bagley, however at a much later date... even as late as circa 1975! These later items will be marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" and are as no means as highly desirable in terms of their vintage and at best should be dismissed & avoided save for their sole purpose of being as a visual equivalent. Most have even been deemed as being fake, and `passed-off' for extortionate large sums of money...
THIS example however is genuinely guaranteed, and is as original as this pattern can get. I have this same set, listed separately using the evermore desirable Uranium Green glass, that has also been matt-satin frosted which you may wish to look at to make comparison.
The twin-armed candlesticks are the most striking of all produced by Bagley. They compliment this sets tray and powder box with dramatic effect, and this is Art deco styling at its best, perhaps. 'Bedford' pattern is most certainly the most dramatic of any vanity trinket set of the Art Deco period, produced by any glassworks in England.
It is also free of damage, except that is, for a small slither of missing glass to the tray. Very hard to locate or to feel and unless I had mentioned it, you may not ever find it and would most probably be overlooked.
This commanding set remains a wonderful amber glass example, which one never tires of displaying, admiring and if wished, using as is intended.
I am offering it complete at a ridiculously low price for such a wonderful item of Art Deco glass. The powder box alone exchanges for more than $30 (when and if available) and as for the candlesticks?
It is a remarkable statement item of glass. Press-moulded using rich combinations of Iron sulphides and Carbon to the glass batch to give a wonderfully rich golden-amber depth of colour to all items.
You will love & cherish this piece. It never fails to please.
