“WOW, what a stunner!”
Please study my photographs of this magnificent French Art Deco clock with two female sculptures by P Sega, together with its garnitures. The clock movement is in perfect working condition, and is a chiming repeater that strikes with precise timing.
That the clock movement is in original working order is an obvious bonus, however it is the ‘visual appeal’ of Art Deco marble clocks and their various decorative mounts that make these items so desirable & collectable investment items today be they working or not.
This particular example was produced without any compromise to quality. Expensive hard-stones have been used throughout from Granite, Onyx and a variety of marble stones, all of which have beautiful & colourful striations as can be seen.
The predominate colour of the granite for this clock, is considered to be amongst the most desirable variant of them all. This stone was (and still remains) scarce and high cost, with even a small tile commanding a hefty-sum. Granite, formed deep in the Earth over hundreds of millions years ago, from slowly cooled magma, which formed tiny crystals of magnesium, titanium, iron, calcium, quartz and other minerals. This stone can never age. It is as ancient today as it will be until the ends of time and yet it remains ‘fashionably new, exceptionally stylish & modern’
Art Deco marble clocks are fabulous items of interior display however the metal mounts propel this example into another league… Not one, but two, quality cast Art Deco ‘Flapper Girls’ recline upon the clock. Both are in different pose whilst they each delicately hold a stylized bird. It is a beautiful image which captures a mood of loving peace… It is a ‘Happy’ clock!
… Each of the sculptures has its very own individuality & personal detailing, however closer study reveals a particular decorative feature, which to me provides this piece with added compliments & thoughtful design. The small detail of the lady on the right with her plaited hair (which is characteristic of a stylized flower) has then been replicated upon the ormolu front panel at the base of the clock and then again upon each of the garnitures. This is not only a very clever incorporation, it also ‘marries’ each component piece together as one to perfection…
CONDITION REPORT: I can feel just one small ‘nick’ to the underside front-edge at the base of the clock, and very few others (which can be felt around a couple of the edges rather than seen) and that is about all. This entire example together with its garnitures is next to mint pristine throughout. The metal sculptures are also in fabulous condition throughout.
Please make no mistake this piece is a constant sensation. Picture it in your own home and imagine its everyday presence… You will adore it, I can assure you.
