This beautiful vintage French “Terre cuite d’Art” sculpture, is in the Napoleon III style, however it was produced in the 1930s, which although unsigned is recognized as being a piece by Ugo Cipriani. The sculpture carries its foundry number and also the monogrammed letter “C”
Ugo Cipriani (1897-1960) was Italian born. He studied at the famous Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, and just as his father, became a sculptor of high acclaim. He left Italy for France during the early 1930s, as Mussolini’s fascist government ruled the day… From the moment he resettled in Paris, he went on to produce some of the finest of Art Deco sculpture, using a variety of working mediums from bronze to spelter for example. Many of his bronze sculptures were also replicated and produced in terracotta, during the 1930s, to make them more affordable for retail.
My photographs of this terracotta example speak for themselves with describing this stunning piece. The photographs also show the remarkable condition of this beautiful study and the wonderful richness of 80 plus years of aged patina, which cannot be replicated. One could say that the condition of this piece is museum quality. This finish is smooth to the touch and is truly sublime… Photographs however cannot show the size or scale of this piece: It is a very impressive 14 inches wide by 10.25 inches high.
The sculpture was produced as a “free-standing” piece and so it was not intended to be fixed or set onto a marble base for example. This feature in itself allows for versatility when displaying the sculpture as it is not governed by the limits of a rectangular base… This beautiful female study can be viewed in the round upon a dining table for example and or placed in different poses for a variety of visual displays to add appeal wherever it is suitably displayed… This ‘ancient’ piece remains fresh & ‘modern’ in terms of its timeless attraction.
This sculpture is a marvelous survivor from the Art Deco era and a very wise investment piece, particularly at this current offer price and the pristine condition as is evident throughout… The entire piece is totally free from any cracks, chips, repairs or restoration.
This is a 'give-away' at this ridiculously low price for such a piece. You will not find another.
