The beauty of this set is in the fine casting of the heavily gold plated setting. The leaves of the flower are very detailed and the plating is brushed for a lovely effect. The flowers resemble a sunflower with a proportionately large center which is detailed with small turquoise glass seed beads. Hattie apparently liked using these beads in her later creations......while looking through the book, Hattie Carnegie Jewelry, Her Life and Legacy written by Georgiana McCall, I couldn't help but notice how many pieces that incorporated these turquoise beads! And, after seeing a number of designs of flower brooches which looked similar to the one in this set, I am sure this must have been part of a floral design line and could have been launched to accompany her Spring or Summer fashions. For the relatively small size of the brooch and earrings, there is a nice heft to the pieces exemplifying the quality of these items. Even the backs of the brooch and earrings have been finely detailed. The brooch closes securely with a locking mechanical catch and the earrings have secure clips. This set does not make a huge statement, but, none the less, it spells out classy elegance and would look phenomenal on a suit lapel!
I can find no visible issues with this set....almost appear to have never been worn!
The clips on the earrings are both signed "Carnegie" and the brooch is signed "Hattie Carnegie" on an oval cartouche.
