Hats which bear the label of the flamboyant milliner, Archie Eason, are often hard to come by. This hat, although rather on the conservative side for the designer who created hats from the 1950's into the 1970's, is unusually sleek and sophisticated. The black fur felt body of the hat is made in Italy by Brigitte (Schiaparelli often used bodies made by this company in her famous hat designs) and is so exquisitely soft to the touch. The style is that of a helmet cloche and could easily pass for a 1920's hat if worn with clothing of that era. There is an outer band of rich black velvet which surrounds the face and the back of the hat has a two point inverted "V" detail which has Eason's famous signature bead over sequin at the top of the "V". At the bottom of the fur felt section of the hat there is a wire which gives the hat a nice substantial frame.....this overlaps the velvet headband. The fur felt hat is typically unlined. There is a decorative light green braided cord inner hatband. This hat is every inch "quality"!!!
The only thing that I would say is a little askew with this fine hat is that the thread holding the signature sequin is a little loose and should be re-sewn to avoid loss, but other than that, the hat is in beautiful condition and appears to have seen very little wear, if any.
