1960's Burgundy Velvet Hat Designed by Christine Original
The first thing that I need to say about this hat is that some of the photos do not portray an accurate color of this item. For some reason, some of the pics make this hat look very dark....almost black, so for color, please look at the photos of the hat when it is not on my hat model, Melanie. The photos of the hat alone, are more true to the lovely rich burgundy color. This hat, also, can be worn two different ways and it looks great either way you may choose....the front brim flipped up for a sassy look or lowered for a more sultry look. I've shown "brim up" and "brim down" so you can get the idea of the versatility of this velvet beauty. The crown is somewhat unusual in that it is not rounded, but instead, it has four seams which give it more of a squared effect. The bottom of the crown is surrounded by a brilliant ruby satin hatband....1 ½" wide. There is sort of a puffy appearance to the crown.....possibly influenced by the fashion of the popular `60's film, Romeo and Juliet, after which empire waistlines and velvets became very "in vogue"! The brim is top stitched and, here's another interesting thing to note.....the left side of the brim at the back of the hat is tacked up and the right side is not. At first, I thought the right side had just come undone, but under close scrutiny, I couldn't see any evidence that it had ever been sewn up and I believe that you could see needle holes on the satin material where the stitches would have been sewn. But, there are none, so I have come to the conclusion that the hat was just made to have one side of the brim up and one side down....and, it works! The inside of the hat is lined with ivory colored material and has an inner burgundy grosgrain ribbon hatband. This hat absolutely looks spectacular on.....much better on than off! And, by the way, I personally prefer the brim up!
Condition: Very Good
This hat is very clean with the exception of very slight soiling on the front of the inner grosgrain ribbon hatband. Not bad, but a little bit of an issue that needs to be mentioned. The velvet is in very good condition. There are some very, very small areas that show some tiny bits of wear or pressure points....this is only upon very close observation. No one will see this issue, you may rest assured! And, again, I will stress that this hat is more of a reddish burgundy....not extremely dark....no shades of purple, either. True burgundy!
