If you've ever seen the long black velvet opera coats with white rabbit fur trim popular in the 1930's and 40's.....this hat, even though from a later decade, would be just the right hat to wear with it! I do have one of my own and haven't been able to part with it yet and was so tempted to keep this little beret style hat (the shape bears some resemblance to a pillbox in that it does have definite form), but then again, I always want to keep every hat! This hat is made from soft white rabbit fur (most likely French) and is lined with black . Originally, I believe this hat had a white satin hatband that could be seen from the outside, but most likely for comfort's sake, a previous owner tucked this inside of the hat and it now appears to be a inner satin hatband....it works fine that way! I have left it as I found it. A wonderful winter white fur hat just perfect for dressy evening wear!
Condition: Very Good
As stated previously, I think the ivory satin band has been somewhat altered for personal preference. The fur is plush and shows few signs of shedding.....minimal shedding is to be expected with rabbit fur. The inside is clean with the exception of very slight soiling on the turned up satin hatband. The fur has no unpleasant odors. This hat appears to have been very well cared for by it's previous owner.
