This hat has a bit of a "scultpted" look about it......the way the sides are constructed, it is shaped in a scalloped type manner. The style of the hat is a bit like a cloche, but appears to have more of a slight bonnet style brim. The deep navy velour used to make this hat is beautiful.....the best, imported from France! It is extremely light weight....nothing heavy and bulky and it truly is as soft as fine velvet to the touch! The graceful sweep of the brown speckled feather detail makes for a very attractive addition. The ribbon tie that appears to be holding the two feathers together is grosgrain on one side and satin on the other. The rounded crown is rather shallow, because so much of the hat is "brim". The back of the hat is enhanced by strips of velour felt making the hat look as if it is laced up. This hat is unlined and does have a navy grosgrain ribbon inner hatband. By the way, the label reads "Neusteters, Denver".....from it's opening in July of 1911, it was THE high fashion store in Denver.
Condition: Very Good
The body of this hat is in excellent condition. The feathers, for the most part are in great condition, too. The end of one of the feathers is a tiny bit ragged, but not unattractive. One feather is shorter than the other and I'm not sure if it was this way originally, but it looks nice as is. I have tried to photo the feathers so that the prospective buyer can see them as they are. There are hatpin holes in the label and because this hat is so lightweight, it surely seems that it would be wise to secure this hat with a lovely hatpin. Overall, this hat has been very well cared for by the previous owner.
