1980's Soft Teal Suede Dress With Genuine Fur Collar and Cuffs Designed by Liz Roberts-Robert Elliot for Bergdorf Goodman

When this dress was first purchased in the 1980's at Bergdorf Goodman on the Plaza in New York City, one can only imagine the cost...... it was surely a goodly sum of money at the time! The materials used to make this dress were not inexpensive......the very softest rich teal suede which drapes beautifully.....genuine black fur (which I believe to be possibly Tibetan Lamb's fur) collar and cuffs are fully detachable with snaps, not Velcro, for ease of cleaning. Everything says "the best" with this garment. The sheath style dress is fitted with two vertical darts on the front of the dress on either side of a center seam which runs down the front from neckline to hemline. There are two vertical darts on the back of the bodice on either side of the zipper closure. The waist is a drop waist which comes to a V center front and back. The sleeves are long and, I will give you fair warning.....this dress has Joan Crawford shoulder pads!! These pads are very typical of the "Dynasty" fashion era of the 1980's and are just plain big! There is a kick pleat at the back of the bottom hemline and the dress is fully lined with a matching synthetic material. This lovely dress is not a stiff suede dress like so many......soft as glove leather, this one.....designed for comfortable wear.

Condition: Good

I couldn't turn away from this quality dress as I did see great potential, even though it does have some issues. A good professional suede (suede does show some wear...some spots and soiling) cleaning would do wonders for this garment.....I usually leave this option to the new owner, as many vintage clothing collectors do not use modern day cleaning methods as some feel they are detrimental to the garment....instead of beneficial. The basic suede is sturdy, but is soiled in some areas and a little faded in the shoulder area, most particularly. There is one seam on the hipline (drop waist seam) on the back of the dress which may need to be re-sewn. The fur collar and cuffs are in fine condition. The kick pleat could stand to have a touch up---possibly an additional stitch....this is often the case with kick pleats. As to the inner lining, there are substantial stains to the underarm area....these are limited to the lining only and so not come through to the outer suede. Well, it sounds as if there are enough issues to make this dress unattractive, but, I don't think so....it just needs some TLC and it will be ready for wear once again. The price of this dress does reflect these issues.....if it were perfect, it would be 2-3 times more! If you have any further questions about condition, please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to answer any concerns.
