Late 1940s-Early 1950's Navy Blue Wool Derby Style Hat Designed by Sandra, New York

Offered for sale is a smart Derby style hat made from navy blue "Doeskin" 100% wool felt. The hat itself was made by the Geo. W. Bollman Co., Inc. in the USA and carries the label of Sandra, New York. Sorry to say, I could find very little about this label....even using Hattatoriam's wealth of information. The hat has a rounded crown and a narrow rolled brim, typical of the Derby style which was originally named for the Earl of Derby. There is a narrow topstitched band of navy felt which circles the base of the outer crown. The edge of the outer brim is turned over towards the crown and also topstitched.....all for nice small details. But, of course, the focal point for this hat is the plumage at the back. I believe these delicate white feathers are called ostrich tips and seem to be just as light as the air.....waving gently with the slightest breath of air! There is a felt knot and tie between the two tufts of feathers. The hat is unlined, but does have a navy blue grosgrain ribbon inner hatband. This hat is extremely sporty and would look so nice with a 1950's 2pc. suit!

Condition: Very Good

The overall condition of the wool felt is very good. There is no fading. The feathers, as I have stated previously, are very delicate. I can see some that have been bent, but are still attached. I'm sure over the years some are gone, but there are still ample numbers left to make a good showing. This hat will need to handled with care because of this detail. The inner grosgrain ribbon hatband does show some discoloration. And, the milliner's label does show some signs of soiling. But, as you can see from the photos, this dear hat still looks mighty fine!
