Late 1960s-Early 1970s Jerry Marsch for Mardi Gras Garden Party Dress
This pretty floral silk organza dress exudes grace and elegance! An appealing floral print in the most wonderful colors complimented by a simple, yet feminine style is sure to be a hit at any spring or summer party. Splashes of hot pink, blue, green and orange on an ivory canvas ....the only thing that is missing is a big picture hat! The dress has a V-neckline with an attractive notched collar with two hook and eye closures at the back. The bodice has two front darts (none on the sides or back). A skirt which is slightly gathered at the waistline provides the perfect light and airy feeling to the dress. Fully lined except for the sleeves, which remain somewhat sheer, it's not necessary to wear a slip underneath. The lining is made from a nice ivory material. In the photos, I have stuffed the sleeves with tissue paper in order that you may see the full floral pattern on the material and, also, to give you a better idea of how the sleeves would look when the dress is being worn. The dress is belted at the waist with an attached rich hot pink satin belt (almost 3" wide) which closes at the back with three hook and eye closures. The dress has a metal zipper closure on the back. There is a nice 4" hem at the bottom of the skirt. Any lady wearing this exquisite dress would surely be a vision of beauty!
I have looked this dress over thoroughly and I only see two issues that are worth mentioning. Number one.....I believe the belt was attached with two more stitches on the back and it almost appears that someone deliberately "unattached" these two stitches.....causing no damage to the dress at all. There are two small unidentified marks on belt at the back of the dress and when measuring the circumference of the skirt, I detected two faint marks on the material. The way the skirt gathers, these were very hard to see. Other than these two very unobtrusive issues, this dress has been extremely well cared for.
Label: Jerry Marsch for Mardi Gras
In the bottom hem of the lining of the skirt, there is a ILGWU Label (International Ladies Garment Workers Union) Made in U.S.A. and a paper tag which reads: Order 2796, Style 383, Siz 14.....another tag appears in the back of the dress near the neckline which states: Dry Clean Only
Size: 14 according to the above mentioned label, but it appears to be a small size 14.....best to rely on the measurements.
