Stunning 1960's Gold Brocade Evening Coat

When I say "stunning", I do mean spectacular, smashing, elegant and amazingly brilliant! In fact, this gorgeous coat is so brilliant, that it was hard to tone it down in the photos! This fabulous evening coat was probably custom made since there is no label. The gold brocade is just lovely and perfect for a very dressy affair that requires the wearer to make a real fashion statement. In other words, if you don't want to be noticed, please don't wear this coat! The coat is not floor length.....on me, (5'4") it comes to mid calf and the sleeves, with their very generous 3 ½" cuff hit me just above the wrist. Although the coat is not flared, it's not totally straight either.....it does have some fullness. It is completely lined with matching satin which has designs (some of which are Oriental) stitched into the shoulder area and along each side of the front opening.....magnificent! The former owner's initials are stitched into the inner design on the left side of the front opening. There is a one button (covered in the same brocade material) closure to the front of the coat. All seams are nicely finished. One very striking feature of the coat is the fantastic shawl collar which has been gathered ever so slightly on each side, making it very capable of lying flat or be raised for a very dramatic cape effect! Nothing like rich gold brocade to add the "Wow" factor!

Condition: Very Good

There are some spots to the inner lining....I have tried to show these in the photos. One armhole does have some perspiration stains.....not horribly bad. Again, see photo. No wear to cuffs or collar. The outer material looks almost like new with no stains apparent. All issues seemed to be contained to the inner lining as far as I can detect.

Label: None present.

Size: No size label present. By today's standards, I am guessing that this coat is most likely a generous size 8.
