I almost walked right by this beautiful hat while recently on a buying trip.....but, something about those gorgeous Spring flowers on a cold, wintery day, begged me to take a second look! When not being worn, this hat is somewhat unpretentious, but when placed upon my lady's head.....well, it takes on a whole new persona. If you should choose to purchase this wonderful hat, don't be disappointed when you first open the box....just remember, that in order to be truly appreciated, this hat must be worn! It does look so different when not being worn....but, oh when it is donned.....it's marvelous!
This spectacular floral spray is placed delicately upon a circular form made of stiff netting in a shade of deep pink. The crown of the hat is open, so you can see why I chose to describe this hat as a "Halo". The colors of the flowers are so striking......soft pinks, purple, lavender, magenta, white and the occasional green of small, dainty leaves! A wonderfully appealing combination for this sweet bouquet from one of America's most renown hat designers, Sally Victor. At the back of the hat is a fabulous large magenta satin bow which seems to tie it all together. The inner hatband is made from a magenta grosgrain ribbon and the edge of the open crown is finished with binding of the same lovely shade. There is a small faux tortoiseshell comb at the front of the inner crown for added security.
Condition: Very Good
There are several small issues which I feel are worth mentioning to a prospective buyer. On several of the silk flowers, there are some "age" spots.....could be dried adhesive, but, at any rate, it's a little light brown spotting of some sort. Some of the flowers seemed to be slightly mashed, most likely from years of lying flat in a hatbox in a closet. But, this is not very noticeable at all when the hat is being worn. There is, also, a place on the hat that could have had a flower at one time (although there is no sign that any glue was ever present on this spot), but, now is bare. Please see my photos and then decide for yourself whether you feel that the beauty of this Spring chapeau is compromised by these very slight issues. I, personally, would have absolutely no problem wearing this spectacular hat to any warm weather affair.
