Vintage 1960's Navy Blue Straw Bowler Style Hat Designed by Mr. John Classic
Condition: Very Good
As I previously mentioned, this hat has an "off-white" hatband....I am sure that when brand new, this hatband was a brilliant white. It is still white, but over the years it is now "off-white" or "ivory" as one would say about a vintage wedding gown. Now, I didn't say "yellow".....that, it is not! On the crown and, really throughout the straw body of the hat, I have noticed some slight inconsistencies where the straw was colored "navy"....or dyed, I should say. There are tiny places that seemed to be slightly lighter than other areas. I definitely don't feel that this is from wear....it's just the way the hat was manufactured. The straw is a little bit polished and for that reason, these areas will not photograph well. I have tried to show this issue, but it's really not that noticeable at all and I didn't have much luck. Now, the issue that I could get to show in my photos is a slight stain at the bottom of the outer hatband that is just under the red bow tie. I think this shows up far more in the photo than it really does show when you look at the hat. There are several other very minute places that look to be the same discoloration on other areas of the band.....but, again, look at the photos. The brass buttons are still bright, but do have some small signs of age. These do not detract from this hat at all.....it's still a sweet one, after all these years!
