Beneditto Panetta came to NYC from Naples, Italy, where he had worked making fine platinum jewelry. After his arrival in the USA he continued making platinum jewelry for a while, but eventually worked for Trifari and Pennino, both being makers of fine costume jewelry. In November of 1945, Panetta started his own costume jewelry business and it is said that one of the criteria that the company adhered to was, "it had to look real or out it went"! The company always prided themselves on the fact that their pieces did look "real" and were made with the utmost detail. The jewelry was not inexpensive when it was new and because most pieces were made in limited production runs, Panetta jewelry today often commands quite a bit of respect by costume jewelry collectors. The Panetta Jewelry Co. was sold in the 1980's to one of it's Japanese clients and later closed completely in 1995.
This phenomenal set consisting of a brooch/pendant and clip earrings is set with rich faceted faux topaz stones in a heavily gold plated setting.. The earrings have diamond shaped drops which contain the same richly colored amber glass stones. The brooch/pendant has three diamond shaped drops at the bottom of the piece. All stones are prong set. The chain is original to the pendant. A heavy and impressive demi-parure for the person who wants to own the very finest of Panetta jewelry! I can only hope that the photos will do justice to this regal creation.
Signed Panetta on the earrings (both on the drop and the clip) and the brooch/pendant is signed on the back, too.
