This rich purple cotton velvet cocktail dress exhibits a simple, yet graceful style which will be well received at any special occasion! The neckline is a rounded and slightly scooped and made especially nice by the lovely pointed shawl collar. The sleeves are just above the elbow and have a nice turned up cuff with the same look of the collar....a little slit with two points. There are side darts and front darts on the bodice and two darts on the back of the bodice. The skirt also has darts at the top which serve to give the skirt a little fullness....it is not a straight skirt, by any means. There is a side metal zipper and the dress is not lined. The waist is belted with an a matching adjustable purple velvet belt. The color of this dress was hard to capture in the photos....it is a wine or burgundy shade of purple, with no "blue" in the color at all. A very warm and pleasing shade of purple, indeed! The velvet in this garment is a light weight velvet, not a heavy weight velvet as in some vintage items. With just the right jewels to accessorize, this dress will be a great addition to any vintage wardrobe!
Condition: Very Good
I have photographed the issue that I think to be the most evident. On the back right hip area of the garment, there are some faint marks (and these do show up more in the photos than when the dress is actually viewed in person). I have detected, upon very close inspection, a few indentions on the velvet that would not show in the photos. It's very possible that a good steaming or cleaning may completely take care of these minor marks....I just don't know for sure, but I do not feel that these small issues compromise the beauty of the garment. I always like to acknowledge even the smallest things so that the buyer will have no surprises.
P.S. Since I listed this lovely dress, I did decide to have it professionally dry cleaned and now it is almost without issues.....these "faint marks" that I originally referred to are now almost unseen since the cleaning! As I had thought, the cleaning did the trick!
