This is the cutest little mink hat and so very different from what you ordinarily see when you search for a vintage mink hat. The color is truly the color of caramel and cream and the fur has a nice sheen! This hat has definite shape to it....not floppy at all and the style of the hat puts one in mind of a beret. One side of the band is a little more exaggerated for a side tilt effect and the interior of the hat is a wonderful beige wool felt that co-ordinates beautifully with the fur. The inner band is done in a very rich dark brown grosgrain ribbon. You will not see yourself coming and going in this mink hat....that's for sure!
I can only find one little thing to mention with this hat and that is a little spot on the front toward the right side. I believe this is where some of the fur is joined on the felt base. I could not get this to photograph well enough to see....it blends very well and I only discovered it when I ran my hand over the hat. Certainly, nothing to worry about at all! This hat is very clean and has been gently worn.
Label: Vera Whistler Original
I could not find anything on this milliner, but I do believe she might have been based in the deep South. This hat was purchased from the collection of a lady who was from Alabama. If there is anyone out there who knows of this hat designer, I would certainly welcome any information on Vera Whistler. I am always interested in learning about the milliners who designed these lovely creations.
