Late 1930's-Early 1940's Peach Silk Satin Bias Cut Nightgown Trimmed With Lace

Rich and soft peach silk satin material accented with lovely ecru lace and inserts of delicate embroidery......this makes for a simple, but beautifully detailed vintage nightgown. Typical of the era, the gown is cut on the bias and has an empire waist. The bodice is closed by a dainty silk ribbon tie at the neckline and the back of the bodice is styled with a slit opening which starts at the lace trimmed neckline and plunges to a "V" seam at the empire waist. A row of slightly ruffled lace trim around the neck opening, and a wider row of fabulous ecru lace across the front of the bodice and around the hemline (lace at hemline is 3" wide) adds just the perfect finishing touches. The embroidery is very pretty and gives a unique detail to this fine item of vintage lingerie. Another silk ribbon tie is attached in the front at the waist seam and would have been pulled around to the back and tied.

Condition: Excellent

The overall condition of this garment is excellent with only two issues worth mentioning. The ribbon at the neckline is frayed and shows quite a bit of wear. It is still usable and will tie with no difficulty, but at some point in time, it may be necessary to replace it. The ribbon at the waistline is in reasonably good condition, but one ribbon is much shorter than the other. One side is 35" and the other side is 19". The silk satin is in wonderful condition with only one visible pull which is very slight. The gown has one minute discoloration....I hesitate even to use the word "stain" because it doesn't look like the types of stains that are usually seen on lingerie...just a little tiny spot which one really has to do a close inspection to find! The lace and embroidery is in excellent shape, too.
