Vintage 1970's-80's Hermes Silk Scarf, Swing designed by Julia Abadie

There are very few people who haven’t heard of the Hermes company in Paris! The company was started in 1837 by a saddler, Thierry Hermes. Among his first items for sale were not beautiful silk scarves, but instead, gloves, boots, gauntlets and moneybelts, of all things! Now, the company is so well known for silk scarves with magnificent designs and the Kelly bag, named for Grace Kelly in 1955, because, of course, she was frequently seen with one on her arm. Many items which are made today, still have the equestrian motif, including some of the beautiful silk scarves the company is famous for making. This silk scarf being offered for sale was designed by Julia Abadie in the late 1970’s –early 1980’s and is a discontinued collectable design named “Swing.” The theme of this print is a very unique take on golf and is done in brilliant shades of shocking pink (thanks, Elsa S.), various shades of tan and bordered with navy blue. The hem is hand rolled to the front of the scarf. The photos show the center design as well as each of the four corners and I have photographed the back of the scarf as well (last photo-design is reversed).

CONDITION: Very Good

This scarf does have several issues and does show some small signs that it was worn. In the left lower corner where the artist name appears, there seems to be a watery looking stain. This can be seen in the photograph. Just above the Hermes trademark in the same corner, there is a slight pink stain on the cream colored silk and, also, there is a very slight pull in the silk in this same corner, which I couldn’t capture in the photo. There are several other small spots which are very slight. There are no holes in this lovely scarf and there is no fading to the silk. I am not sure if Hermes offers cleaning services for their vintage scarves, but it would be well worth checking to see if they do, because with a little professional attention this scarf would be as good as new. A very striking and unusual take on the subject of golf, but, then again, this scarf is vintage Hermes and no one makes scarves like Hermes!

LABEL: There is no label….as so often happens with scarves, the lady probably removed it for her convenience.
