Here is a lovely hat designed by Henrietta Kanengeiser....who did you say designed this gorgeous hat? Henrietta Kanengeiser....otherwise, known as Hattie Carnegie! Born in Austria in 1889, she came to the United States in 1900 and lived with her family in New York City. As a teenager she worked in the millinery department in Macy's and in 1909, she opened her own hat shop with a friend and named it "Carnegie, Ladies' Hatter." Here, Hattie designed many beautiful hats....now, I say she designed the hats, but she actually did not make them, as she did not sew, believe it or not! Her partner, Rose Roth, did all the sewing. This little hat shop in NYC is where it all began.....it was a success and the rest is history. Hattie became famous for her clothing and accessories and many Hollywood stars were patrons of this great designer. This beautiful 1950's hat is dramatically tufted in shades of burgundy and pink soft, quality velvet and almost has the appearance of two velvet roses. A lovely example of the great Hattie Carnegie!
Condition: Very Good
For it's age, this hat is in extremely good condition with very few issues. There is some wear and slight soiling to the inner headband and slight wear to the velvet on some of the tufts on the very top of the hat.....this appears to be "pressure marks" where the velvet is slightly worn. This in no way detracts from the elegance of this hat. The colors are very vibrant and the velvet very soft. For a hat that is well over 50 years old, the condition is very fine and pays tribute to it's original quality.
