1980s Bob Mackie Bead and Sequin Detail Cocktail Dress

All one has to say is "Bob Mackie" and immediately beads, sequins and feathers come to mind!! This famous designer began his career in Hollywood as a costume sketch artist, eventually working with some of the most well known designers in Tinsel Town---Edith Head and Jean Louis, to name a few. Later, he gained fame and notoriety for his dramatic and sometimes outlandish designs for such famous stars as Diana Ross, Carol Burnett and Cher. He started his ready to wear line of fashions in 1982. Throughout the course of his career, Bob Mackie has achieved many honors in the fashion world. He closed his business in 1992, but currently creates a line of clothing for QVC under the label of "Bob Mackie Wearable Art".

This wonderful Bob Mackie design doesn't have feathers----just plenty of beads and sequins!! A strapless bodice in black material is the perfect canvas for a beaded and sequin floral design. Silver and iridescent white beads are combined with brilliant green, yellow, cream, black and pinkey coral sequins to create a stunning border both at the top of the bodice and at the waist. The dress is finished off by a bright yellow silk full flirty skirt. The skirt material has a tone on tone floral pattern which, though subtle, adds to the dramatic effect of this fabulous dress. The bodice is fully lined and has a ribbon on the inside which fastens with an eye and hook catch around the wearer for added security. The skirt has the outer layer of silk and under the skirt there is a thin layer of bright yellow organdy and then a third layer of yellow acetate. The three layers give more bounce to an already stunning dress! The back closes with an "invisible" black zipper. Can't go wrong with a Bob Mackie design!!
