18th Century Tastevin French 950 Sterling Silver Snake Handle
French 950 sterling silver tastevin with snake handles, partial maker's mark S over P in a hexagonal lozenge, c.1770 - 1780. Next to the maker's mark is an Inventory or Census mark from 1797 used on articles bearing the mark of the previous Regime. There is a Minerva mark on the outer edge which was applied later.
This special antique Tastevin has a snake handle and is 3 1/4" in diameter, 4 1/4" across the ring handle, 7/8" deep, weighing 91 grams or 2.9 ozs. Troy.
The outer rim has a worn, period monogram T L T.
Monogrammed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
