Floral Repousse Salt Dish Oval Gadroon Scalloped Rim 1865 Sterling SIlver

American sterling silver oval open salt dish, possibly by John Polhemus of New York City, c.1865.

This attractive salt dish has floral Repousse decorations on its body, a conforming oval foot and an applied Gadroon scalloped rim.

There is a ornate, period monogram H on one cartouche on the side of the body, with the other cartouche being blank.

This desirable salt is 3" - 2 3/8", 1 3/8" tall and it weighs 58 grams or 1.9 ozs. Troy. It is marked with an X in an oval and 925 Sterling.

Monogrammed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.

The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
