Dutch 833 standard silver tobacco box, date marked for 1872. It has what appears to be a later insert for holding cigars in place.
The lid has engraved scenes of a Dutch village surrounded by fancy floral scroll work. The hinge is clean and tight, with all of the edges being in good order. The interior of the lid is monogrammed D L D and inscribed 1872. The box is fully marked.
This attractive and useful 19th Century silver box is 5 1/4" long, 3" wide, 1" deep and weighs 139 grams or 4.5 ozs. Troy.
Monogrammed and inscribed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
