Sciarrotta Leaf Bowl Hand Made 1950 Sterling Silver
One of Sciarrotta's earlier pieces, this attractive bowl sits on three ball feet and has scalloped edges.
The bowl is 5 1/2" across the handle, 4 3/8" in diameter, 1 3/4" tall and weighs 104 grams or 3.3 ozs. Troy.
Italian born, Sciarrotta (1907 - 1985) was smuggled out of Italy in 1944 by U.S Army Intelligence to work on submarine armaments. After the war he opened Sciarrotta Silversmiths in Newport where his work was noted by Gorham, Shreve Crump & Low and Bailey, Banks & Biddle, the three firms soon began commissioning special orders from. By the time of his retirement in 1975, several of Sciarrotta's works were in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no monograms, removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
