English sterling silver Marrow Scoop, date marked for 1720.
The maker's marks are rubbed, as is usually the case with marrow scoops, as the marks were struck on the exposed part of the handle and subject to wear over time. Remember, this scoop is almost 300 years old.
The date mark is clear, and the Lion's head erased and the assay mark are still discernable.
This very early marrow scoop is 10 1/8" long and weighs 66 grams 2.1 ozs. Troy.
The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no monograms, removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
The soft, warm, original antique finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
