Pair of Antique Primitive Clothespin Dolls Carved Legs 5" & 4 5/8"

Here are two very unusual antique clothespin dolls. What is most unusual is the hand carved legs and shoes on both dolls, not just the usual clothespin legs. The shoes on one doll has actual carved heels and bent knees. The other doll has very tiny feet with shaped ankles and feet. Both dolls are dressed in paper clothing, somewhat faded and torn in a few places.

Both dolls are dressed in tan, green and red paper. They have an over jacket, an over skirt and pants, but the articles of clothing vary the color. The pictures showing the back of the doll will show the colors best as the front has pretty much faded to beige. The faces are hand drawn in pencil, the arms are wire. One dolls wears a hat, but it is partly missing. The other has a long braid in the back.

It is hard to say when these were made, but the wood is hard and very early that would allow for the intricate carving. My guess would be early 1900s. The condition is consistent with the age like the fading of the paper I mentioned and I noticed one of the dolls with the very tiny feet has a chip on the front.
