Wrought by Isabella Mitchell, aged 10, this antique sampler is not dated but probably dates to the 18th century. It is linear and fully stitched on early linen. The sampler has several alphabets, numbers through 13, additional letters, the child's name and age, lots of flowers and birds, a lovely heart toward the center, an elaborate basket of flowers, and a stately peacock. The sampler measures 16 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches and is framed in a beautiful pine frame that measures 21 1/2 by 13 1/2 inches. The sampler came out of an estate in Decatur, Georgia; the house once belonged to Bobby Jones' (golf fame) grandfather. It is a gorgeous antique!
