This is a beautifully crafted Danish sterling silver sugar sifter, made in 1866. It has a twisted handle, culminating in a sweet little cherub face on the termination. The bowl of this piece is pierced in a lovely sunburst design.
This sugar sifter measures 7 3/4" x 2 1/4 and the bowl is 1/2" deep. It weighs 47 grams, or 1.1 Troy ounce. This piece is in excellent condition with no monograms.
There is a castle mark with the "66" below it on this piece, indicating that this sifter is Danish and was made in 1866. The mark with the entwined letters is an assay master mark for Simon Groth, who worked from 1863 to 1904. It is also marked with a "CL" maker's mark, but I was not able to figure out who that might be.
