Frank Smith Sterling Silver Cheese Scoop in the Earle Pattern
This is a large Sterling Silver Frank Smith Cheese Scoop in the Earle pattern from 1890 . This piece is in excellent condition, all detail being very crisp and clear. The design is an asymmetrical combination of foliate and scrolls. This has a gilt washed bowl that is cut in an interesting shape. The gilt is in excellent condition showing only one thin spot on the back where the spoon rests. It is 8 1/8" long x 1/14" wide and weighs 2.3 troy oz. The piece has a monogram in the cartouche.
The Cheese Scoop is an unusual shaped serving piece that can be found in two sizes - large and small. The larger used for scooping cheese from large chunks or slabs; the smaller for serving soft cheeses such as cottage cheese or ricotta.
