This is a large Sterling Gorham cheese scoop in the Baronial-Old Pattern from 1898. It was designed by William G Goodman. The piece is in near mint condition, all detail being very crisp. The handle is a combination of shells scrolls and fruit. The end of the terminal has the head of a grotesque crawling over the top and sinking his fangs into the handle. The pieces is monogrammed.
The weight of this Cheese Scoop is 3 troy oz. It measures 8-1/4 " in length and the bowl is curved in a half circle. It is marked on the back of handle with the maker's mark for Gorham, sterling, pat. 1898.
