Albert Coles Coin Silver Pocket / Fruit Knife Circa 1870

This pocket/fruit knife has a solid plain handle with a simple scrolling design on the top and bottom of the handle. It is 5 7/8" long x 5/8" at the end of the handle and weights 1 troy oz. This knife is circa 1870. It is in very good condition the blade showing normal wear. It is a very cool knife with the name Sutton engraved on it.

New York silversmith, Albert Coles worked on Liberty Street from 1836 to 1880. The business was sold to Morgan Morgans who in turn sold it to George Shiebler. His work can be found in both coin and sterling. This three-part mark consists of an eagle, Coles initials "A/C" and a head facing right. Known for his attention to detail and design, Coles was an excellent knife maker and his method and quality was renowned. Albert Coles died in 1886.
