Small organ with a great sound! These small organs were made in Leipzig in Germany and date from around the 1870's and 1880's. They were designed for playing indoors, unlike their bigger cousins the street organs. The music is programmed onto 11 3/4" interchangeable metal rings and the music is produced by 18 reeds. The tunes are happy and jolly. The Ariston organette was made by the Schmidt & Co. Leipzig.
The case is ebonized wood with a line decoration incised on the top, and decorative turned pillars on the corners.. There is a decorative metal shield shape around the playing area. An original paper label is still on the bottom of the machine with the makers name on it.
These organs are hand cranked, but easy to play as there is little resistance when winding them, they are great fun at a family get-together, and I have been well received at fund raisers.
The case measures 14 3/4" wide, 12 3/4" deep, and 7" high
