We are very proud to offer an original oil on canvas by Taos Artist Don. F. Smith, signed & dated 1967. The painting 24 inches x 30 inches is a very lovely autumn landscape. The leaves on beautiful Aspen trees have turned a brilliant golden yellow color & are just beginning to drop on to forest floor. It is Fall in Taos. This might well be "The Enchanted Forest". The oil is in original & excellent condition. It has a very nice frame just perfect for this painting. This painting was once offered for sale by the prestigious Plaza Art Gallery & we have the Biography from them. This will be included with sale. Don F. Smith was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, around 1923, where he began painting at only 12 years of age. He was given lessons by the widely known Tennessee Landscape Painter Jack E. Miles. Don F. Smith spent every minute sketching & drawing & became very good. At only 15 years, he was painting for two large department stores & traveled to all but 14 states as part of this job. He painted his native Ohio landscapes , with rolling hills & steamboats on the Ohio River. Some of Don F. Smiths early paintings can be found in the Marietto, Ohio Museum & in private collections all over the United States. He entered the Army in 1943, where he was assigned as an artist- draftsman. After he got out of Army, he worked for 20 years as a commercial artist. He first visited Taos, N. M. in 1954. He returned every year until 1959. He was so impressed & in love with this beautiful wondrous part of this country that he sold his business & moved to Taos. Here he painted beautiful landscapes of this peaceful valley. This painting is truly part of The Land of Enchantment. It is just magical in its beauty & serenity.
