This exquisite little book dating 1846 is a carry all under the title of "Church Services" written in a brass plaque on the front. It measures 3 5/8" high and 2 1/8" wide at the front and 1 1/2" deep! A little tall for a true miniature but it has the dainty look of a miniature. It has a brass frame for the velvet cover and a decorative clasp holding it all together. The pages are have a fascinating gold leaf pattern on the edges which is in amazing shape for the age of the book. The velvet is rough in the area close to the top of the curved back where a finger would have rubbed away at the velvet over the years. It was used very delicately! At the back where the frame meets the velvet there is a buckle where they are separated in one spot where the hinge from the clasp meets the frame. I have shown photos of the inside so you can see that there is wear and tear on the opening pages at the spine. The rest of the book is in very good shape. The leather case has had the top separate from the rest of the case but it can still be stored and taken out from the case. The contents are the Book of Common Prayer, The New Testament and the Psalms in that order. Only 1 of the silk bookmarks is still attached. The pages are not number but I'm sure there are over 1000 pages and none are missing! It was printed at Oxford by the University Press. A treasure for someone who is interested in church history and miniature books.
