This is a fancy darning egg from the Victorian Era, circa late 1800's. Bet you don't know how to darn...we don't either! It was used to sew very tiny repair stitches, primarily to socks. This lovely piece has a sterling silver handle with an ornate flowers design. It is stamped "Sterling" and 00 before the sterling mark (we don't know what this might be). The egg itself is black painted wood.
Condition: Excellent vintage: the sterling could be polished, but we leave that to the lucky new owner. In addition there are shallow surface scratches on a small part of the egg.
Size: Overall length: 4 3/4"
