French empire burl wood and ormolu inkstand inkwell

This is a rare original French empire burl wood and ormolu inkstand. Wonderful burl wood, accented with bronze ormolu decoration. Two sides have a cupid with a bow and arrow, one side has a wreath, another has a rosette. There is a single drawer that pulls out. The bronze central handle is a bundle of arrows, with the finger hole being a wreath. The piece rests on four paw feet. I am not sure if there were glass inserts at one time or not. This piece is period, dating between 1820-1840s. It stands 8 1/2" tall and measures 5 1/4" by 5 1/4". There are signs of its age, such as splits in the wood, wear, and one small missing piece on the top (see pictures). A rare find for the inkwell or French empire collector!
