This Vintage Wooden Boxed 3/8 inch Bead Plane is stamped T.N. FORSTER and the Plane Body, Iron & Wedge are all in very good condition. T. M. Forster appears to have been the user of this early plane rather than the maker. The wood has a nice dark patina which was probably developed from decades of oiling by its users. It is stamped on the heel with the users name and 3/8. It is 9 7/16" long x 1 1/4" thick.
Wooden moulding planes have been around for centuries. They still have their place, and are a joy to use. No screaming electric router, throwing dust and chips everywhere... just the beautiful sshwiishhhhh sound of the moulding plane cutting the profile. Yes, these old moulding planes are a joy to use.
This plane dates from the early 1800's and obviously has had excellent care. There are no chips, cracks, warping or checking and the Iron is good with rust. There are several minor surface scratches at the throat. It is ready to use, but due to its age, type and great condition it would be nice to be kept in on display.
