Very large and ornately decorated triple plated Victorian serving tureen, with an inner band to hold a glass bowl over hot water in the tureen to keep the food warm. The tureen has a beautifully etched lid with decorative pierced finial, and a figural band of decoration to the base with maidens and birds in foliage. The tureen measures a massive 12" wide from handle to handle, and is approx 11" tall to the top of the finial. It is constructed of a very heavy metal section, and is in good overall order with a minor dent to the inner band, and some smallish losses/pitting to the plating, commensurate with age and use. The tureen displays beautifully (I have it out in my dinning room) and is still very sturdy and usable for its intended function, it would be wonderful in the center of the table at Christmas or Thanksgiving. The tureen is marked Taunton Silver Plate Co. to the bottom, which dates it to the 1870's or earlier, as the company was taken over by I. J. Steane around 1880. I have estimated the shipping, this is a heavy item, if it comes in lower I will refund.
