This rare and exquisite lamp was made by the very famous and exclusive FBAI company, to quote from their site: "The FBAI (Fonderia Bronzi Artistici Italia) chandelier casting factory...... an art bronze foundry specializing in the manufacturing of chandeliers and lamps, was established in 1966. Its harmonic designs reflect the finest Italian handicraft tradition for both pressure die-casting and the more ancient lost wax process". If you know the work of the company you will be aware of how hard these top designer lamps are to find, and how expensive they are to purchase, the retail on them is generally in the upper hundreds or thousands.
Maker aside, this is one of the prettiest mid century Florentine style lamps I have ever had, with a fringed ornate silk shade, heavily bright gilt cast metal base (because of the maker I think this is probably bronze, also the very base shows slight verdigris) with pink, blue and white enameled porcelain accents, and a gilt tole rose with porcelain flower, the whole lamp is of exquisite make, it just oozes with quality. I photographed with the light off and on, so you can see how lovely it looks lit.
The lamp measures 20" tall to the top of the shade, it has an adapter to take a narrow base candelabra bulb, it has the original wiring with a toggle switch, there is a smallish chip to the plug (which therefore needs replacing). The body of the lamp is in very good vintage order, there is light age and use wear to the finishes and gilding, but overall it displays well and is a beauty, it is marked to the base F.B.A.I. MOD. DEP./ART. 2593 Made in Italy."
This is the perfect designer lamp to add a really beautiful touch to a vanity or side table, the mid size makes it really useful, and the quality of manufacture is just about as good as it gets.
