Original "La Danse" engraved romantic lithograph dating to circa 1860 by Franz Hafstaengl of Germany, after a 1730 painting by the French master Jean Baptiste Joseph Pater. Pater was Jean-Antoine Watteau's only student and closest follower, his work is so similar to Watteau that Pater's works were sometimes misattributed to him.
The lithograph is in a vintage gilt frame with velvet mat, at the lower left is the original artist name and at the lower right is the printers name with the title "La Danse" to the middle bottom, you can clearly see the litho impress marks to the edges of the picture. The framed image measures approx 20" by 18" by , and is one of two identically framed pictures by the artist that I purchased from an estate sale, see my store for the second.
The lithograph has some slight discoloration from age, and some very slight foxing to the paper, this is nearly all at the base with very little if any on the actual image. The frame has some slight scratching and the velvet mat is slightly faded, but overall this shows very well and would wonderful displayed. The backing paper on the picture had deteriorated, but I still have the import label, and I am happy to get a new backing paper applied before shipping if you request it, which will take a just few days and will be at no extra cost.
