Absolutely beautiful hand painted T&V Limoges France cabinet plate (fully back stamped), signed to the front by the artist L. Meages. The 10 1/2" plate depicts the species Odontoglossum Alexandrae (identified in hand painting to the back) which is an Orchid species native to Ecuador, Northern Peru and Columbia. It was first discovered in 1777 by Spanish botanists exploring Spain's South American colonies, and was particularly popular during late Victorian times due to its rare and exotic beauty. The plate has a central hand painted botanical image of this lovely flower, with 4 further floral edge medallions. There is heavy filigree gilding over a green base to the border, and black gilt borders to each of the floral motifs. Very beautifully hand painted plate with a dramatic and unusual color scheme which sets it apart. Plate is in good condition for the age, there is minor wear to the gilding, no chips, cracks or other damage. Beautiful display plate, would look wonderful on a wall or in a cabinet.
